Jalkapallohuumaa!

Moikka! 2 viikkoa taas kulunut ja ihan hirveesti on tapahtunu kaikenlaista. Mistähän sitä alottais. Noh.

Hi! Two weeks have passed again and so many things have happened. I don't even know where to start. Well. I can tell you more about the internship and the house later, but now I want to go back to Friday two weeks ago. In my last post I already told you that something football related would happen but oh boy I had no idea what really would happen in the end!

Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA

Eli meidän työpaikan henkilökunta (4 hlöä + toimari) oli kutsuttu seuraamaan Hollanti - Kazakstan maaottelua. Töiden jälkeen suunnattiin Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA:lle. Meille oltiin kerrottu että saadaan siellä "jotain syödäksemme." Käytiin vaihtamassa meidän paperit oikeisiin lippuihin, ja meidät ottikin vastaan oikein komea herrasmies puku päällä, joka kertoi olevansa meidän illan opas. Alright. Ensin meidät vietiin stadionin ravintolaan, jossa meille tarjoiltiin kolmen ruokalajin illallinen viineineen.

Our company (4 people at the office + CEO) had been invited to watch the Holland - Kazakhstan football mach. After work we headed to the Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA. We had been told that we would get "something to eat." After changing our papers to real tickets there was a really nice looking gentleman in a suit who told that he would be our "guide" for tonight. Alright. First he took as to the restaurant of the ArenA where they served us a three course menu with drinks. So a bit more than we expected. The food was really nice and what I really enjoyed was that I got to spend some time with my colleagues in a more relaxed atmosphere this quickly after starting my internship!

After the dinner we were guided to our seats and to our surprise the seats were incredibly good. Fifth row and leather seats haha. From where we sat one could easily see for example the coaches and extra players of both teams. And on the pitch the players were so close that you could hear what they were yelling to each other. It was so great! Even though I am not the biggest football fan on this planet it was still great to experience the atmosphere at the stadium. During half time we got to go to this lounge where they served drinks and snacks. The second half we were sitting even closer to the pitch since there were free seats. The second half was more entertaining than the first one and luckily the Dutch team won the game!

Aika helvetin pienet suoraan sanottuna. Mutta siellä mä vaan olin! Ihan jäätävä kokemus ja olin koko loppu illan ja seuraavan päivänkin aika starstruck. Ja ehkä vähän vieläkin.

But this was not the end yet. After the game we went back to the lounge and next to it there was another room. What we didn't know, was that the other room was meant for the family and friends of the Dutch players. It didn't take long until the players and coaches, one by one, came to this lobby that connected the two rooms. They took pics and gave autographs to the fans before going to the family room. Say what? What are the odds that I am there in the same room with the Dutch national football team taking pictures with them? But there I was. The experience was unreal and the rest of the evening I was pretty starstruck. And I guess I still am a bit.

Tässä ihan rennosti jutellaan Sneijderin kanssa.. NOT haha / So this is me casually having a chat with Sneijder.. NOT that casually haha

The funniest (or the saddest) part of this all that for R this would've been a real dream come true. The next day I experienced some jealousy but in my opinion that's pretty obvious.. I mean, that it must feel a bit "unfair" that I, who a) am not Dutch and b) can't even recognize all the Dutch players got to meet them, and not for example R. But the truth is that this was a really big thing for me (too) and an unbelievable experience that I will NEVER forget! It was such a great night.

Tällästa tällä kertaa. Ja vain ja ainoastaan tällä kertaa. Taisi olla once in a lifetime juttu nimittäin.

This is it for this time. And I guess only this time. Probably a once in a lifetime experience, right?

Safely in NL

Täällä sitä nyt ollaan, turvallisesti perillä. Kaikki hyvin.

Here I am, safely in the Netherlands. Everything is fine. I'm feeling good. On Thursday (last week) I arrived in Amsterdam. R was waiting for me at the airport and together we went to my apartment for the first time. I was pretty anxious to see whether the place even exists because I had only seen some pics online of it. The housing situation in Amsterdam is EXTREMELY bad and I found a flat pretty easily so that was also one o the reasons why I was a bit nervous to see how the place would look like.. Well, we found the place and everything is just as it should be. I live in the notorious (hehheh) area called Zuid-Oost. So not a cute little house by the water as you would think when someone is "living in Amsterdam." I have 3 roommates, two from China and one from Holland. They all seem really nice although we don't see each other that much.

Tältä näytti kun tultiin ekaa kertaa kämpille / This is how the room looked like when we arrived

Ja tältä näyttää Ikea-reissun jälkeen ;) / And this is how it looks like after a visit to Ikea ;)
Vaatekaappi järjestyksessä! /  Clothes in order!

My internship has also started and after four days all I can say that it seems really nice! I will tell you more when I know more. My colleagues are really nice, there's a lot to do and days go quickly. This week has basically been running between home, work and the supermarket though.. Ikea as well. This post is really not that good so I'll just go to sleep and try again another day ;) Tomorrow is going to be an exciting day, more abut it later!

R valmentamassa ja minä kattomassa. Huomenna lisää jalkapallojuttuja mutta vähän isommassa mittakaavassa ;) /  R as a trainer, me watching. Tomorrow is going to be another day full of football but this time it will be BIGGER ;)

Here we go again!

Pitkä postaustauko, vaikka kauheesti on tapahtunut. Parin kuukauden aikana on vietetty 3 viikkoa Hollannissa, tehty yksi opinnäytetyö ja hankittu harjoittelupaikka. Hollannista. Kyllä.

Long time no blog posts even though a lot has happened.During the past 2 months I spent 3 weeks in Holland, finished my Bachelor thesis and got an internship place. In Holland. Yes.

In the summer I found out about an internship possibility via a friend in Holland. I got his recommendations (thank you!), applied, went to an interview and got the place! We were in the Rosada outlet village when I got the call that I got the place. I might have screamed a bit and I didn’t want to go to the shops in a while since there was a possibility that I just buy everything because of the euphoric feeling. At this very moment I am sitting at the Helsinki-Vantaa airport with a lot of luggage and butterflies in my stomach.

It was easier to leave this time comparing to leaving for Barcelona. I mean mentally. In the morning I was able to stand up straight and didn’t have the need to vomit, like 1,5 years ago, hah. But of course it is more than horrible to say goodbyes to your loved ones. Family and friends. But what can you do. Packing on the other hand was way harder since I had to pack something else than shorts, too. Like 3 jackets for example. I wonder if I will be sweating in Amsterdam where it is nearly 20 degrees and I’m wearing my thickest winter jacket.. ;)

Now I’ll go and eat m second breakfast this morning before the flight. Next time when you here from me I’ll be in Holland. My idea is to write this blog in the same way as I did in Barcelona, a diary kind of a blog. We will see how I’ll manage!

Tot ziens! ;)

Efteling

Seuraavana retkipäivänä suunnattiin huvipuistoon! Lähdettiin käymään siis Eftelingissä, joka on joskus äänestetty Euroopan parhaaksi huvipuistoksi. Tai teemapuistoksi sitä kyllä oikeestaan kutsuisin. Autolla mentiin, ajomatka kesti vajaat 2h.

On the next adventure day we headed to a theme park. Efteling is the name of the park, and it's been ranked as the best theme park in Europe! We went there with the car and it took about 2 hours to get there. We arrived just when the park opened and you can only imagine how excited I was at that point! I was jumping around like little girl haha..

Tehtiin asiaankuuluvat eväät huvipuistoreissulle ;) / Some snacks to eat on the way to the theme park
Aivan uskomaton paikka! Kuvat kertokoon enemmän.

In the beginning we were just walking around and trying to figure out the layout of the park. The whole area had been divided to smaller areas each of them with a theme. First we ended up in an area that had been built with an Arabic style. All the little details.. so cool. We went to a few attractions and continued to the other areas such as the central park and the story forrest.. The place was unreal! May the pictures tell more.

Tämä on siis roskis :D / This is where you put the trash:D

Lounas hollantilaisittain, kipkorn, frikandel, ranskikset ketsupilla ja majoneesilla / The Dutch styled lunch, kipkorn, frikandel, french fries with ketchup and mayo

The place was unreal.. Once again, if you happen to be traveling in the Netherlands, I recommend you to visit other places than Amsteram, too ;)

Justin Timberlake and a road trip to Belgium

Right in the beginning of my trip (and the reason why I went to Holland right then) we went to see Justin Timberlake performing in Antwerpen! I've been a fan for maaaany years now and R didn't resist going there either :P It was so freking cool and I enjoyed every minute! It was a nice experience to go to a concert abroad, too. I noticed that comparing to Finland there were a) less screaming teenagers b)not that much pushing others c) more dancing people d) less taking of pics/videos. All in all 10/10 experience, I want to go again!

Erittäin huono kuva mutta onpahan todistusaineistoa! / Suvh a crappy picture but at least I have proof that I went there!

Seuraavana päivänä lähettiin pienelle road tripille Belgiaan! Ensin ajettiin aamulla Bruggeen, Belgian yhteen tärkeimmistä matkailukohteista. :)
The following day we went for a little road trip in Belgium! First in the morning we drove to Brugge, one of the most touristic places in Belgium. The city has remained almost totally as it was in the Middle Ages and it is listed in the  World Heritage site of Unesco. The city is incredibly beautiful, lots of canals and cute houses. Very good shopping possibilites. The restaurants were a little bit more expensive than else where in Belgium/Holland, but I guess thats pretty normal in touristics places. The wather wasn't that good but we will definitely go back in the summer when the sun is shining! :)
Maisemat autosta oli 99% tätä / The view was 99% of this

R:n mahtava vuoden 1987 menopeli haha / R's great -87 car haha

Maassa maan tavalla, kirsikka olutta! / Some Belgium beers, the red one is made of cherries!

Bruggessa kierreltiin siihen asti että kaupat meni kiinni. Lähdettiin jatkamaan matkaa kohti Knokkea, minne mentiin illalliselle.

We walked around Brugge until all the shops closed. We continued our trip to Knokke to have some dinner there. It was a totally different city than Brugge! Really modern, a summer city for the "rich people", I heard. Since it was only the beginning of May, there were not that many people in the city yet. That was actually ok, because it also meant that the prices were a little bit lower than usually. First we took a walk at the beach and we found areally nice beach cafe. It was on the beach so, that some how there was no wind at all. We took some drinks there, the sun was shining and it was nice and warm. After the drinks we went to a restaurant and ate huge plates of meat haha. And it was about 15€ each, so quite nice. After dinner we went to the Casino like we always do haha. No pictures this time, since it was not allowed to photograph there. Next destination was home. Such a lovely day!

P.S. Blogia on käyty lukemassa jo yli 10 000 kertaa, uskomatonta!

The spring is at it's best at the moment in Holland. Incredibly green everywhere!

I tried to be a cool local person and took some pics while riding a bike haha

Amsterdam

A couple of weeks ago I flew to Holland, and here I am writing this post for you guys. I had the lovely morning flight operated by Finnair, so I was in Amsterdam already before 10am. By the way, I am nowadays always flying HKI-AMS-HKI route with Finnair. I  never travel during the holiday season to here, so the flights are always around 180-220€. I tried the cheap airlines for a few times but I realized that it was a bad option for many reasons. Yeah, you could get the flights a bit cheaper but you always have to take a connecting flight from Stockholm/Copenhagen/Riga and the traveling times get longer. Also, when you add the cost of your luggage (included in the price with Finnair) and food (also included in the price, and you have to eat somewhere anyway, either at the airport or in the plane) the total price of the tickets are the same or eaven more expensive than with Finnair.

Pieni maailma. Vaihdettiin pari sanaa ruotsiksi (HYVÄ AINO!!) ja siirryin lounasleivän kimppuun.

So, I arrived in Amsterdam in the morning. R was working, so I spent the day in the city. This time I actually had a plan! First I headed for lunch a little bit outside of the most touristic areas. It is funny how all the tourists walk down the main street, Damrak, even though at the moment it is almost fully under reconstruction. I took a route a few streets away from Damrak and saw zero tourists. I crossed a few canals and found the lunch cafe called Lombardos. Such a lovely little cafe with great food and genuinely nice staff. The waitress took my name for the order, and as I told it she asked if I was Finnish. I asked how on Earth did she know that, and turned out she was Swedish and she recognized my name. Such a small world. We spoke a few words in Swedish (GOOD JOB AINO!!!) and then I got my perfect lunch!

Lombardosista jatkoin Body Worlds näyttelyyn jonka missasin Suomessa.

After lunch I headed to the Body Worlds exhibition which I missed when it was in Finland. Surprisingly I  got the student discount with my Finnish student traveling card. The price was still 18€, but it was worth it. The exhibition was in 6 floors and it consisted of different themes by the human body. The little sciense nerd inside me was really happy, it was so cool! It took  me about 1,5 hours to go through all of the rooms and if I had had a friend with  me to talk with it probably would've taken twice the time. I even had to hurry a bit so that I could by something to eat and a train ticket. I took a pita falafel at Maoz and it was absolutely delicious! Inside the pita bread there was the falafels and hummus that you had to pay extra money for. You could also put stuff in it yourself from the salad buffet, that had different kinds of cheeses, pickles, dressings, olives etc.. Really, really delicious!

You are not allowed to take pictures of the exhibition but I took one of a flying pig while buying the ticket!

Päivän ruuat / The food of the day

Ja sitten junalla kohti Goesia!
And then the train to Goes!
