Days 92&93: Parc Güell and Sant Jordi

Tiistaina 23.4. oli Sant Jordin päivä, joka tunnetaan myös kirjan ja ruusun päivänä. Tapana on siis että rakastavaiset, ystävät ja perheenjäsenet vaihtavat kirjoja ja kukkia niin, että tytöt antaa pojille kirjan ja vastaavasti pojat tytölle ruusun. Aiemmassa postauksessa jo kerroinkin että ostin kirpparilta  kirjoja, ja lähetin niistä toisen Ramonille!:) Perinne on siis lähtösin tarusta, jossa urhea Sant Jordi pelastaa prinsessan lohikäärmeen kynsistä ja antaa tälle ruusun. Kirjaperinne taas on (jos muistan oikein) lähtösin 1900-luvun alusta, jolloin päivää alettiin viettämään myös Shakespearen muistopäivänä.

Tuesday 23.4. was the day of Sant Jordi, also known as the day of roses and books. The tradition is that lovers, family members and friends exchange roses and books so that girls give boys books and boys give roses to girls. In an earlier post I told that I bought some books from the flea market and the other one I send to Ramon for Sant Jordi's :) The tradition has on origin of a tale where the brave Sant Jordi rescues a princess from an evil dragon and gives her a rose. The book tradition is a little bit younger, from the beginning of 1900's, when they started to celebrate the day also for the memory of Shakespear (if I remember the stories correctly).

Me suunnattiin aamusella Emmiksen kanssa Parc Güelliin, joka on Gaudin suunnittelema puisto. Täytyy sanoa että petyin pikkasen.. Puisto ei ollut kovin iso ja Gaudi hommia oli suhteellisen harvassa. Kaikissa kuvissa näkee aina liskopatsaan (olin aina luullut että niitä on monia ympäri koko puistoa) jonka luona oli nyt(kin)  niin paljon porukkaa ettei edes kunnon kuvaa saanut. Onneks oli sentään kaunis ja lämmin ilma ja maisemat tietysti mitä parhaimmat! Puistosta lähettiin vielä keskustaan tsekkaamaan Sant Jordi meiningit ja syömään ennen kun itse lähin kouluun. Illalla mentiin vielä Bar Ramoniin seuraamaan Barcan peliä ja huonostihan siinä kävi. Ilta sai kuitenkin arvoisensa päätöksen kun erittäin väsynyt, ryytynyt ja todennäköisesti köyhä ruusukaupustelija lahjoitti meille yhden ruusun ilmaiseksi :P

Emmis and I woke up early to go to Parc Güell, a famous Gaudi park. I have to say that I got a little bit disappointed.. The park was not that big and there were not that many Gaudí stuff that I thougt. I've seen a lot of pictures from there and for some reason I thought that for example there are many of those lizard statues, but there was only one and I couldn't even get a proper picture because of all the people packed in front of it. At least the weather was beautiful and hot and the view was of course amazing. Afterwards we went to the center of Barcelona to check out all the Sant Jordi stuff and eat before I had to go to school. In the evening we went to Bar Ramon to watch the Barca game which didn't end that well.. Still our night got the perfect ending when a really tired, shabby and probably broke rose seller gave us one rose for free :P

Kontxi oli ostanut meille perinteistä Sant Jordi leipää, oli hyvää! Ostettiin vastalahjaksi ruusu josta Kontxi oli erittäin iloinen :) / Kontxi bought as traditional Sant Jordi bread, it was delicious! We bought a rose for her and she was more than happy to get it :)

Days 41&42: Anna <3 and exploring!

Ensinnäkin, huhhuh nyt on jo maaliskuu! Lähin tammikuussa kotoota eli ihan kiitettävän pitkän ajan oon ollut jo poissa Suomesta:) Lauantaina nukuttiin aamulla suht pitkään. Susu oli tulossa meille iltapäivästä tekemään yhtä ryhmätyötä koulua varten, ennen sitä kävin kaupassa ja laitoin jotain ruokaa. Emmi oli vähän kipeenä niin ei sitten itekään tullut tehtyä mitään, vaikka ulkona oli pitkästä aikaa oikeesti ihan kiva ilma, aurinko paisto ja oli ainakin +10 astetta lämmintä :P Susu siis tuli meille joskus kolmen aikoihin ja alettiin työstämään meidän marketing esitystä. Joskus alkuillasta oltiin valmiita ja kävin suihkussa (Emmin piti painaa kaasukaapissa olevaa nappia koko ajan että sain lämmintä vettä...ainakin keksittiin tapa miten saadaan lämmintä vettä!) ja odottelin ihanaa Annaa:) Anna on siis vaihdossa Valenciassa ja oli viikonloppureissulla Barcelonassa. Ensiksi istuttiin jokunen tunti tässä mun luona höpötellen ennen kun siirryttiin tohon meidän alakerrassa oleviin pubeihin. Ensin käytiin jossain pienessä kahvilassa vetämässä churrot (espanjalainen jälkkäriherkku) ja oluset. Seuraavaksi mentiin Bar Ramoniin, ihan vaan sen nimen takia haha. Se olikin tosi kiva semmonen blues paikka joka on perustettu jo 1930-luvulla! Otettiin pari tapasta ja vähän juotavaa ja turistiin lisää. Seuraavaks Anna suuntas Barcelonan yöelämään ja mä tulin kiltisti kotiin nukkumaan :) Oli kyllä ihana nähdä Annaa pitkästä aikaa <3

First of all, is it really March already? I left Finland in January so you could say I've been quite a long time abroad..:) On Saturday morning we slept really long. Susu was coming to our place later that afternoon to do a group work for school.. Before that I did some groceries and cooked something.. Emmi was feeling a little bit sick so I didn't feel like doing anything either :P The weather was good though, sun was shining and probably more than +10 degrees, finally :P So Susu arrived around three o'clock and we started to work on our marketing presentation. Around 6pm we were finished and I took a shower (we found a way to get hot water: someone has to push a button on the "gas box" all the time that we need hot water, this time it was Emmi) and then waited for Anna! She's a friend of mine who's now studying in Valencia and they were here in BCN for the weekend. First we sat here at my place and just chatted for hours. Then we went downstairs to try some churros (a Spanish dessert) and beer in a little café. Next destination was "Bar Ramon", just because of the name;) But it was a really nice blues place and it has been there since the 1930's already! We took a few tapas and some drinks and just talked about everything we've been experiencing. Then Anna headed to the nightlife of Barcelona and I came home to sleep:) It was wonderful to see Anna after a few months! <3

Sunnuntaina herättiin taas myöhään, ihanaa:) Ulkona oli taas tosi kiva ilma joten ja Emmillä oli jo parempi olo, joten päätettiin lähteä vähän ulos kävelylle tutustumaan meidän uuteen asuinalueeseen! Pistettiin uudet lenkkikamat päälle ja käveltiin lähellä olevaan Parc Joan Miróon. Kierreltiin siellä jonkun aikaa palmujen alla ja jatkettiin matkaa. Ihan ton puiston vieressä oli vanha areena, johon on rakennettu ostoskeskus jälkeenpäin. Huomattiin että sinne pääsee sisälle (sunnuntaisin ei yleensä kaikki paikat ole auki) ja että tän koko areenan katolle pääsee kattomaan maisemia! Noustiin rullaportaita pitkin ylös ja näkymät oli aikamoiset.. Sieltä näkyi käytnnössä koko Barcelona Sagrada Familiaa ja Montjüic vuorta myöten. Tuli aika uskomaton fiilis, että tääkö nyt on mun kotikaupunki!:) Katolla oli myös tosi kivan näkösiä ravintoloita ja päätettiinki että tullaan joskus syömään sinne. Mentiin takasin alas, otettiin smoothiet matkaan ja käveltiin kotiin auringon laskiessa. Kotona tein vielä vähän läksyjä ja kai me jotain syötiinkin hehe.

On Sunday we woke up really late, got to love it:) The weather was really nice again and Emmi was feeling better so we decided to take a walk and explore our new hoods;) We put our new jogging clothes on and walked to Parc Joan Miró which is really near. We walked there under the palm trees for a while and continued towards an old arena which has been renovated into a shopping mall. We noticed that we could go in (not all of the places are open on Sundays) and that we could also go to the roof of the building! We took the escalators up and the view was absolutely amazing. You could see basically the whole city including Sagrada Familia and the mountain Montjüic. I was so amazed by the view that it was really hard to believe that this is my hometown now... They had really nice looking restaurants on the roof as well and we decided to come back someday to have a dinner there! We went back down, took smoothies with as and walked back home when the sun was getting down. At home I had to finish some homework and I guess we ate something as well.. :P
