Day 115: Lisbon Day 1

Keskiviikkona lähettiin Birten kanssa aamulla aikasin, 1½ tunnin yöunien jälkeen lentokentälle ja kohti Lissabonia. Lento oli pitkästä aikaa aikamoista tuskaa: flunssan jäljiltä korvat poksahteli niin kovaa että meinasin pyörtyä, edellispäivien ruokahaluttomuuden takia oli ihan hirvee nälkä ja tietysti vielä väsytti, mutta edellisten tekijöiden takia ei tullut uni. Lentoyhtiö TAP oli iloinen yllätys: lentojen hintaan (~70€ meno-paluu) sisältyi ruoka lennolla ja ruumaan menevä matkatavara! Lento oli suht lyhyt, 1h 50min. Lentokentältä lähettiin metrolla kohti meidän majoituspaikkaa. Kokeiltiin kumpikin ekaa kertaa Couchsurfingia (http://www.couchsurfing.org/) joten ilmassa oli pientä jännitystä.. Saavuttiin keskustan alueella sijaitsevalle kämpälle ja vastassa meitä oli oikein mukava ja vieraanvarainen portugalilainen nuorehko mies, äitin kommentti oli "Ai kauheeta, mikä äijä se on??" Jätettiin kamat kämpille ja meidän host, Goncalo, heitti meidät työmatkan varrella olevaan kahvilaan. Tilattiin paikalliset leivonnaiset, Pasteis de Belém, jotka näytti epämääräsiltä mutta maistu taivaalliselta. Lehtitaikinan sisään oli laitettu vanilijavanukasta ja koko setti uuniin, ai että oli hyvää! Taidettiin syödä joka päivä vähintään yhdet koska ne oli vaan niin hyviä. Kahvilassa istuessa selailtiin Birten opaskirjaa ja todettiin että jaahas, mehän ollaankin kahvilassa jolla on alkuperäinen resepti noihin leivonnaisiin ja joka on ollut pystyssä vuodesta 1837 asti. Ei paha! 2 leivonnaista, kahvi ja mehu maksoi yhteensä alle 5€, en voi uskoa.. Jos toi paikka olisi Suomessa, leivonnaisista pyydettäisiin varmaan vähintään 5€ ihan vaan pelkän  nimenkin takia..

On Wednesday morning Birte and I headed to the airport and Lisbon REALLY early in the morning after 1,5 hours of sleep. This time the flight didn't go that well: after having a flu my ears didn't really like flying and were popping so hard that I almost fainted, after not having appetite the last days I was super hungry, of course I was tired too but couldn't sleep. The airline TAP was great though, a meal and one suitcase were included in the price (~70€ return ticket). Fortunately the flight was quite short, one hour and 50 minutes. From the airport we took a metro to the city center to our accommodation which this time was couchsurfing (http://www.couchsurfing.org/). Neither of us had tried it before but we were lucky: at the apartment our host Goncalo was waiting for us and he was a really nice young Portuguese guy. We left our stuff there and he took us to a café which was on the way to his work. We ordered a local pastry called Pasteis de Belém which looked a little bit suspicious but tasted heavenly! Puff pastry filled with vanilla pudding, served straight from the oven, it was so good! I think we had at least one of those each day after that haha. While sitting in the café we read Birte's guide book and found out that the place where we were sitting was actually the first place that ever served the pastries and thus they have the original recipe. The café had been there since 1837, not bad! The price for two pastries, a coffee and a juice was less than 5€ which is just ridiculous. If the place was in Finland, they could easily ask more than 5€ just for one pasteis, just becouse it's famous..

Kahvilasta lähdettiin kävellen kohti Belémin kaupunginosan nähtävyyksiä. Ensiksi käytiin Jeronimon luostarissa, mutta kierrettiin vaan ilmaiset alueet koska ei riittänyt kiinnostus niin paljoa että oltais maksettu 5€ sisään. Ilmaiseksi pääsi myös käymään luostarin kappelissa, jossa sijaitsi myös kuuluisan portugalilaisen tutkimusmatkailijan Vasco de Gaman hauta. 

From the café we headed to the sightseeing places of the area Belém. First we visited the Jeronimo Monastery but we only visited the free of charge areas, since we didn't have enough interest to pay 5€ to see everything. You could also visit the chapel for free where the famous Portuguese explorer, Vasco de Gama, is buried.

Luostarista käveltiin puiston läpi tutkimusmatkailijoiden patsaan luokse. Sinnekin ois päässyt sisälle, mutta ois pitäny maksaa joitakin euroja niin skipattiin. Ärsyttää kun mihinkään nähtävyyksiin ei nykyään pääse ilmaiseksi.. Patsaan luota käveltiin Torre de Belémiin, joka on vanha sotien aikainen linnoitus joka on myös Unescon maailmanperintökohde. TänneKIN piti maksaa sisäänpääsymaksu, tällä kertaa maksettiin se 4€ muistaakseni. Sisällä oli tykkejä ja muuta sotajäämistöä, portaita pitkin pääsi lukuisille "parvekkeille" joista oli aika siistit näkymät. Eli ei harmittanut että piti vähän maksaakin. Ja aika uskomatonta että koko torni on vieläkin pystyssä, se on nimittäin ollut siellä 1500-luvulta asti!

From the monastery we walked through a park to the statue of explorers. You could go inside there but it cost something so we didn't. It's really annoying that you can't get anywhere without paying.. From the statue we went to Torre de Belém which is a fortress and it is in the Unesco World Heritage list. This time we did pay the 4€ entrance to see it from inside as well. Inside there were cannons and other stuff left from the war and you could go to many little "balconies" where the view was pretty awesome. So actually I didn't mind paying a little for that. And it's quite amazing that the tower still exists: it has been there since the early 16th century!

En ollu koskaan ennen kokeillut tommosta kaukoputkisysteemiä koska ne on aina maksullisia. Niin oli tääki mutta ostettiin neljä minuuttia puokkiin :P /I had never tried a telescope like this because you always have to pay for them. This time we bought four minutes, two for both :P

Seuraavaksi jatkettiin matkaa pieneen puistoon ja istuskeltiin penkillä jonkun aikaa ja lepuuteltiin jalkoja. Lähdettiin kohti kohti keskustaa ja matkalla pysähdyttiin kaatuneiden sotilaiden muistomerkille. Keskustassa vaan pyörittiin ja ihmeteltiin paikkoja ja käytiin syömässä italialaisessa ravintolassa. Aukiolla, jossa ravintolakin oli, oli meneillään jonkunnäkönen kisastudio illan futismatsia odottaville. Paikalliset artistit kävi hoilaamassa ja jengi oli juhlatuulella. Alkuillasta lähdettiin kotiin ja ajatuksena oli mennä aikasin nukkumaan pitkän päivän jälkeen. Kämpillä kuitenkin Goncalo kertoi, että hänen pari kaveria on tulossa illalliselle ja loppujen lopuksi istuttiin niitten kanssa iltaa sinne kello yhteen asti. Oli kyllä tosi kivaa ja tutustuttiin yhteen äijään, joka on töissä Lissabonissa mutta asuu puoliksi kotonaan Barcelonassa ja tämä koti on kahden korttelin päässä meidän kotoota. Pieni maailma!

Next we continued walking towards the center and on the way we passed by a monument to all of those who fell in the wars. In the center we just wandered around and had dinner in an Italian restaurant. At the square where the restaurant was, was also a game studio for tonight's football game. Local artists took the stage and people were in a party mood. Early in the evening we walked back home and the idea was to go straight to bed and sleep after a long day. At the apartment Goncalo told that he has a few friends coming over to watch the match and to have dinner. In the end we chilled with them until 1am. It was super fun and we also met his Spanish friend who works in Lisbon but partly lives in Barcelona like two blocks away from us. Small World!
