Days 178&179: Frankfurt

18.-19.7.2013

Aamulla hyvästeltiin Birte ja Ray ja lähettiin juna-asemalle. Berliini oli kyllä ihan huippu paikka, pakko päästä uudestaan! Ihan vaan pelkästään jo Birten takia :) Ja oli muuten ihana päästä kaikkien keskiaikaisten kirkkokaupunkien jälkeen vähän modernimpaan ympäristöön ;) 

The next morning we said goodbye to Birte & Ray and went to the railway station, once again. Berlin was a great place, I really need to go back again! Also just because of Birte :) And btw, it was quite nice to go in a modern city after all the mid-eval church towns... ;)

Matka jatkui kohti Frankfurtia, joka onkin mun viimenen kohde ennen Goesia! Saavuttiin Frankfurtiin iltasella, heitettiin kamat maailman kuumimpaan hostellihuoneeseen ja lähettiin keskustaan. Käytiin syömässä vähän aasialaista sapuskaa, käveltiin ympäriinsä ja lopuksi vielä oluilla ennen kun suunnattiin hostellille takasin nukkumaan!

Our next destination was Frankfurt, and for me it was the last one before Goes! We arrived around six o'clock to our hostel, left our bags there and headed to the city. We had some Asian food, walked around the center, had a beer and went back to the hostel to sleep!

Seuraavana päivänä jatkettiin keskustassa kiertelyä ja shoppailua. Lounaan jälkeen Anna lähti käymään läheisessä Kronbergin kylässä, mutta me jäätiin Riikan kanssa vielä Frankfurtiin pyörimään. Alkuillasta tavattiin Annan vaihtarikaveri Nathalie ja käytiin syömässä perinteisessä saksalaisessa ravintolassa. Söin perunoita ja "vihreää kastiketta", jotain yrtti-jugurttikastiketta se oli ja sairaan hyvää! Kastike oli siis kylmää, joten sopi erinomaisesti kuumaan kesäpäivään. Kyytipojaksi maistettiin paikallista kuuluisuutta, eli omenaviiniä kuplilla joka ei kuitenkaan ole siideriä. Ota tosta sitten selvää, hyvää oli kuitenkin.

The next day we continued our Frankfurt city tour and shopping, haha. After lunch Anna left to visit a city called Kronberg but we stayed in Frankfurt with Riikka. Early in the evening we met Anna's exchange friend Nathalie and went to have dinner with her in a German restaurant. I had potatoes with "green sauce", a herb-yoghurt sauce. The sauce itself was cold, which fit the hot summer day perfectly! With the food we tasted the local famous drink, apple wine with sparkles but that is not cider. Ok, it was delicious anyway!

Raflasta suunnattiin kohti Main Toweria, jonka katolle pääsi superhissillä hintaan 3,5€, ei paha. Hissi nousi sekunneissa 200m korkeuteen ja ulkona avautu aika uskomattomat näkymät! Otettiin paljon kuvia ja fiilisteltiin maisemia hyvän aikaa, kunnes suunnattiin takas alas katsomaan auringonlaskua joenrantaan. Sieltä jatkettiin vielä vanhaan kaupunkiin oluille, jonka jälkeen minä ja Riikka mentiin hotellille ja Anna jäi vielä turisemaan Nathalien kanssa pariksi tunniksi. Niin vaan koitti mun InterRailin viimeinen päivä, mihin meni 1kk!? huhhuh..

After the restaurant we walked to the Main Tower of Frankfurt. You can get to the roof of it for the price of 3,5€, not bad I think. The elevator took us to 200 meters and the view was preeeetty amazing! We took a lot of pictures and just joyed the view for a good while before going back down to see the sun set by the river. Then, we went to have a beer in the old town and after that me and Riikka went back to the hostel, when Anna and Nathalie still stayed in the city to chat for a couple of hours more. And so, the last day of my InterRail was done! Where did one month go!!? I can't believe it..

Days 174-177: Berlin

14.-17.6.2013

Viimesten yöjunailuiden jälkeen saavuttiin Berliiniin, jossa majotuttiin ihanien Birten ja Rayn luokse, eli siis mun Barcelona-kämppis ja boyfriend. Oli niin ihana nähdä Birteä taas vaikka eihän siitä ollut kun kuukauden verran kun viimeks nähtiin.. Silti! :) Pari ekaa päivää meni lepäillessä, kuulumisten vaihtamisessa ja shoppaillessa, jjee!

After our last night train we arrived in Berlin where we stayed with the lovely couple Birte and Ray, my Barcelona roommate and her boyfriend. It was so nice to see Birte again even though it hadn't been that long since we saw each other in Barcelona.. Still!:) The first two days we just chatted, rested and shopped, yayy!

Väsyneet, mutta onnelliset / The tired, but happy ones

Tämmöset uskomattomat aamupalasysteemit saatiin joka aamu! / This is how our breakfast table looked like every morning!

Jälkimmäiset kaksi päivää meni taas nähtävyyksiä kierrellen, ja taidettiin me vähän shoppaillakin lisää.. :P Käytiin tietysti Berliinin muurilla, tai mitä siitä enää on jäljellä. Ja Birte kerto, että suunnitteilla on että koko muuri otettais pois! Ei kiva juttu mun mielestä. Seuraavana päivänä käytiin vielä Brandenburgin portilla ja holokaustin muistomerkillä. Etenkin jälkimmäinen oli aikas siisti paikka, 2711 kiveä siellä niin pystyssä! Turisti kierros jatku vielä Reichstag rakennukseen, minne oltiin jätetty hakemus paria päivää aiemmin että päästiin visiitille. Sisällä mentiin hissillä ylös rakennuksen katolla olevan kupolin sisälle, missä oli ilmanen audio-kierros. Kierrettiin siis se, räpsittiin vähän kuvia ja lähdettiin kebabin kautta takasin "kotiin." Illalla käytiin vielä yksissä open air festeissä. Oli aika siistiä, korkeen kerrostalon katolla olevat roof top partyt, ei paha! Maisemat oli mahtavat, hyvää chillailumusaa ja pari olutta, ei hassumpi. Itse nautin suht paljon tommosista hengailu bileistä :) Istuskeltiin siellä sohvilla muutama tunti ennen kun lähettiin takasin kämpille nukkumaan. Aamulla taas matka jatkuu.... 

The last two days were full of sightseeing and maybe a bit of more shopping too... :P Of course we went to see the Berlin wall, or what was left of it. And Birte told that there is some plans for removing the whole wall, not nice I think. The next day we saw the gate of Brandnburg and the memorial for the holocaust. Especially the last one was quite impressive, 2711 stones standing there! Our tour continued to a Reichstag building. We had filled an application a few days earlier so that we could enter the building, and free of charge! We went up with an elevator to a "dome" and there was a audio tour, free of charge part 2 haha. We did that and took a few pics and then headed home via a kebab place, nomnom. In the evening we went to an open air fest. It was pretty cool, a roof top party! The view was beautiful by night, nice chill music and a few beers, me likey. Personally I like these kind of chill parties more than hard core clubbing :) WE sat there for a couple of hours on the comfy sofas before we went back to the apartment. The next morning the journey continued once again...

Days 172&173: Krakow and Auschwitz

12.-13.7.13

Ihanan Prahan jälkeen lähdettiin pikavisiitille Puolaan. Koko päivä meni junassa ja kun illalla päästiin myöhään meidän hostellille, kävi ilmi että ne on jotain mokaillu siellä ja meidän varausta ei löydy + hostelli on täynnä. Jes. Tässä vaiheessa muutenkin oli kauhee väsy ja nälkä, ai että.. Meille hommattiin uus hostelli, tuplahintanen (erotus toki maksettiin meille) mutta paljon huonompi. Respassa ei puhuttu englantia ja henkilökunta veti vaan bisseä naamaan.. Jätettiin kamat ja lähettiin syömään, ite olin niin väsyny ja nälkänen että tuli jo huono olo, enkä sitte syönytkään oikeestaan mitään. Takasin hostellille, suoraan nukkumaan ja huomenna uusi päivä.

After the lovely Prague we headed for a short trip to Poland. The whole day in a train and when we eventually got to our hostel, they told that there has been some kind of a mistake and they don't have our reservation. And the hostel is full. Yay. At this point we were pretty tired, hungry, angry.. They got us a new hostel, double the price (they paid the difference) but way worse. They didn't speak any English at the reception and all they did was drink beer. We left our stuff there and went out to eat. I was so hungry and tired that I was getting nauseous and couldn't eat basically anything. Back to the hostel, straight to bed and tomorrow is a new day.

Vissiin alko olee vähän levotonta junassa... / I think we were pretty done with the trains at this point...

Ainut syy miksi tultiin Puolaan, oli että haluttiin kaikki käydä Auschwitzissä. Oishan ihan pelkästään Krakowassakin ollut näkemistä moneksi päiväksi mutta niin se vaan on että ei vaan aika riitä kaikkeen. Mutta siis aamulla matkattiin junalla Auschwitziin. Kierrettiin alueella oppaan kanssa (8€ muistaakseni) semmoset nelisen tuntia ja olipahan reissu.. Ei sitä voi sanoin kuvailla millasta siellä on. Kauheen ristiriitasta, että sinne menee "innoissaan" ja mielenkiinnosta kun tietää miten kauheita asioita siellä on tapahtunu. Meille sattu vielä sateisen harmaa päivä joka oikein korosti paikan kamaluutta... Kuitenkin siis oli hyvä reissu, oppi paljon uutta ja tärkeetä. Jos on mahdollisuus, niin menkää! Ja ehdottomasti kannattaa ottaa opas, se alue on niin iso että menee vähän harhailuks muuten.

Basically the only reason for going to Poland was that we all wanted to visit Auschwitz. Of course there would've been more to see even just in Krakow but the truth is that we just didn't have time for everything. Anyway, the next morning we jumped on a train to Auschwitz. We had a guided our (8€ I think) for almost 4 hours and what a tour it was... I can't describe how it was. Contradictory: you are going there very "excited" and still you know that horrible things happened there. Even the weather wanted us to have the maximum experience: the rainiest and grayest day of our trip so far. Anyway, the trip was really good and I learned a lot more important stuff. If you have a chance, go there! And definitely on a guided tour, the area is so big that without a guide it's just headless wandering..
